Hegseth says War Powers deadline doesn’t apply because of ceasefire with Iran
Democrats have concerns Trump won’t honor the deadline, which falls on Friday. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told Congress on Thursday that the ceasefire with Iran does not count toward the 60-day requirement by the War Powers Resolution that the president must either inform Congress it needs an additional 30 days to wind down combat operations in Iran, or begin bringing forces home.[1]
Separately, abcnews.com reported:
Trump claims fallen soldiers said ‘we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon’
The president attended a dignified transfer at Dover on Wednesday. President Donald Trump traveled to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Wednesday to attend a dignified transfer of U.S. service members killed in the war in Iran.[2]

‘Trump is trapped’: Qatar pushes Iran compromise as US warns fighting could resume after midterms
Qatar is intensifying efforts to broker a breakthrough between the United States and Iran and bring an end to their seven-month war, but the latest round of indirect talks has produced little progress. U.S. officials believe the deepening stalemate is increasing the likelihood of renewed military confrontation, with some assessing that President Donald Trump could order a return to major combat operations after the midterm elections, Axios reported.[3]
Al Jazeera also reported:
Trump calls Kim Jong Un a ‘friend’ and plays down N Korea’s nuclear arsenal
US president’s comments came after he was asked why North Korea can have nuclear weapons when Iran cannot. United States President Donald Trump has described North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as “a friend” and played down concerns about Pyongyang’s nuclear arsenal, saying, “as long as I’m around, he’s going to be fine”.[4]
In a related development, israelhayom.com noted:
Iran talks stall as fears of renewed fighting grow
Qatar-mediated talks between the US and Iran have made little progress, with neither side willing to compromise and fears of renewed fighting growing, Axios reported, citing sources familiar with the negotiations. According to the report, Qatar proposed a compromise linking Iran’s demand for the lifting of the US naval blockade with Washington’s demand for concessions on Tehran’s nuclear program.[5]
