Early reports about attacks are often incomplete and sometimes wrong. This page reports only what named outlets and officials say, in their words, and is updated as reporting changes. If you are near an incident, follow instructions from local authorities and call your local emergency number.
Police in Warsaw have detained a 15-year-old over online searches that officers say may have been linked to preparing a crime.[1]
The case is small and early. It involves a minor, no attack took place, and the police statement is short. Here is what it says.
What police say
Officers received information about the teenager’s suspicious online activity and began checking whether it could have been linked to preparations for a crime, according to a Warsaw police statement as reported by Ukrinform.[1]
The inquiry involved the Prevention, Juvenile and Pathology Division of the Warsaw V District Police Headquarters, specialists from the Counter-Terrorism and Homicide Division of the Warsaw Metropolitan Police, and the forensic laboratory.[1]
Police established the teenager’s identity and address. In a search they seized a laptop and a phone, which went to experts for forensic examination.[1]
Based on the evidence collected, police “classified the minor’s actions as preparation for murder,” which is a prosecutable offence. Officers are still investigating the circumstances and content of his online activity.[1]
What the court decided
The teenager was brought before the family and juvenile division of the District Court for Warsaw-Żoliborz. The court ordered him placed in a youth detention and rehabilitation centre for three months. His further fate will be decided by the family and juvenile court.[1]
What the reports disagree on
TVP World’s headline says the teenager was studying how to carry out a terror attack on a Warsaw mall.[2]
The police statement as quoted by Ukrinform does not name a target, and it does not say an attack was imminent. We could not read TVP World’s full report, so we cannot say where its detail about a mall comes from.[1]
What we do not know
Police have not said what the teenager searched for, what he intended, or whether anyone else was involved. Because he is a minor, his name has not been released, and we have not tried to find it.
