Autumn Raulerson ECB Publishing, Inc.

What the Scam Looks Like

How it reaches you: Email
What Ecbpublishing reports scammers do
  • The company’s Fraud Alert Center put out an article concerning these scams, titled “Received an unexpected call from someone claiming to be your bank?’ Scammers have the technology to spoof the caller ID and appear to come from a trusted source.
  • Any unexpected call, text or e-mail about a transaction on your account is a red flag.
  • There is no legitimate reason why any financial institution would need this information.
  • Remember that these scammers may send links in e-mails or text messages to misdirect you to fraudulent sites where they can steal financial information and account credentials.
  • Spoofs a trusted phone number or sender
  • Impersonates a trusted organization
Ecbpublishing does not publish the exact wording of the email, so none is shown. The sentences above are the source’s own description, not a transcript.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Caller ID can be faked. If a call claims to be from an official office, hang up and call the office back on its published number.
  • Contact the organization directly using a phone number or website you look up yourself, not one provided in the message.

How to Verify This Yourself

Read the original alert directly at Ecbpublishing — that page is the primary source for everything above.
