Project 2025 Author Installed at Interior Department's Watchdog Office

Racial Justice · Aug 7, 2026Project 2025 Author Installed at Interior Department’s Watchdog Office

Posted on August 7, 2026 by Kemetic Mind

Key Takeaways

  • The Trump administration has installed a Project 2025 author in the Department of the Interior’s Office of Inspector General — the independent unit charged with auditing the agency and investigating waste, fraud, and abuse.
  • Interior oversees 500 million acres of federal land, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the National Park Service, and oil-and-gas leasing — all of them targets of Project 2025’s deregulation agenda.
  • Watchdog appointees are supposed to be independent under the Inspector General Act of 1978; placing a blueprint author in that office raises direct conflict-of-interest alarms.
  • The move follows a White House executive order restoring political control over career civil servants — the same “Schedule F” mechanism Project 2025 demanded.
  • A captured watchdog can stall whistleblower, discrimination, and environmental-justice cases affecting Black workers and Black communities for years.

The Department of the Interior’s inspector general exists to embarrass the powerful and protect the public. The Trump administration just placed a Project 2025 author inside that office — handing one of the people who helped write the blueprint for dismantling federal oversight a seat at the table where waste, fraud, and abuse are supposed to get caught. It is the most literal version of the fox guarding the henhouse that this administration has yet produced, and it lands at an agency whose decisions touch everything from tribal trust funds to the air Black communities breathe near industrial lease sites.

Watchdog Capture Is the Point

The Office of Inspector General is designed to be firewalled from the politics of the agency it polices. Under the Inspector General Act of 1978, inspectors general conduct independent audits, investigate whistleblower complaints, and report findings to Congress. The Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency exists precisely to protect that independence. But when the person leading that office co-authored the very agenda that calls for gutting agency oversight, the audit function bends: findings can be buried, investigations slowed, and silence sold as clearance. Insider capture is faster than any legislative repeal, which is why Project 2025 strategists have prioritized personnel over policy.

Why Interior Is Ground Zero

The Department of the Interior manages 500 million acres of federal land, oversees the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ treaty and trust obligations, and controls oil, gas, and mining leases on public soil. Project 2025’s own policy agenda calls for expanding drilling and mining on federal lands, gutting environmental reviews, and shrinking the career workforce that enforces them. An author of that agenda now sits in the agency’s oversight nerve center — meaning the departments most exposed to the blueprint’s extremism have effectively lost their independent referee. There is no conflict here; there is a strategy.

What This Means for Black Americans

For Black communities, the stakes are immediate and concrete. The Environmental Protection Agency defines environmental justice as fair treatment in environmental law and policy — yet Black neighborhoods have long borne the brunt of pollution from extraction, refining, and industrial leasing. When Interior’s watchdog is instructed to look away, those harms go unreviewed. The same office fields discrimination and whistleblower complaints from a federal workforce that is roughly one in five Black, according to federal workforce data — a captured IG chokes the civil-rights enforcement channel from the inside, while the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and other advocates are forced to fight each case in the courts rather than through oversight. For Black tribal members and Freedmen descendants, whose legal standing before the Bureau of Indian Affairs already hangs on bureaucratic recognition, an IG aligned with the administration’s “dismantle the administrative state” project is an added wall between them and their rights.

The Blueprint, Executed From Within

This is not an isolated appointment; it is the Heritage Foundation’s 920-page Mandate for Leadership being executed in real time. Project 2025 explicitly called for restoring the “Schedule F” category and purging career workers deemed insufficiently loyal — a demand the White House enacted by executive order in the administration’s first days. Seeding agenda authors directly into watchdog offices is the next step: turn the oversight apparatus itself into a shield. Anyone who wants the full pattern in context should follow Kemetic Minds’ Project 2025 tracker for the complete timeline of blueprint authors, appointees, and agency actions.

What to Do Now

Call your representative and demand hearings on this appointment. Press the Senate on its confirmation and oversight obligations, push civil-rights organizations to document watchdog inaction, and keep following independent outlets and the tracker — the next placement may land in an agency closer to your own life. The blueprint authors are counting on fatigue. Don’t give them a minute of it.
