GENEVA, Oct 24 — The Ebola patient in Nigeria is a Swiss woman, and the wife of a staff member at Switzerland’s embassy in Abuja, Bern said Friday.[1]
Key Facts
The Threat
The couple had recently travelled together to Uganda, but neither of them had visited the Democratic Republic of Congo — the epicentre of the current outbreak, the Swiss foreign ministry said.[1]
On Tuesday, Nigeria announced its first recorded Ebola case, saying it was a woman who arrived in Abuja on a flight from Uganda. A total of 44 contacts have been identified.[1]
On Wednesday, the authorities confirmed that the patient had the Bundibugyo species of Ebola, which is driving the outbreak in the DRC and for which there are currently no specific vaccines or treatments.[1]
ECDC says: Importation of Ebola cases to Kenya and Nigeria: ECDC assesses the threat With cases of Ebola disease caused by Bundibugyo virus recently detected in Kenya and Nigeria, in a new report published today the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reiterates the low risk for Europe while highlighting the need for preparedness. As of 23 October, Kenya has reported nine cases, including one death.[2]

Transmission Method
The reports do not yet say how the people in this outbreak were infected.
How Ebola spreads, according to the World Health Organization: Fruit bats are thought to be Ebola's natural hosts. The virus reaches people through close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other body fluids of infected animals, then spreads between people through direct contact with the body fluids of the sick. People cannot pass it on before they have symptoms. Health workers without strict infection control, and burials that involve touching the body, have often spread it.[3]
Affected Regions
Places named in the reports: Nigeria, Uganda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, France, Sierra Leone, Liberia.
- Eight of the cases were linked to the first case, who had travelled from DRC through Uganda and onwards to Kenya.[2]
- Nigeria has reported one case, with investigations into the source of infection still ongoing.[2]
What Is Not Confirmed
- “The infection may have occurred during a trip to Uganda approximately two weeks ago,” the Swiss authorities added.[1]
- The woman, identified in reports only as the spouse of an employee at the Swiss embassy in Uganda, reportedly entered Nigeria from Uganda.[1]
- The lack of travel to the DRC prompted a back-and-forth between the Nigerian and Ugandan governments, as the latter insisted that it had not identified any new Ebola cases in recent memory and hinted the patient may have been exposed elsewhere.[1]
Holistic & Immune Defense Outlook
There is no herb, supplement or diet that has been shown to prevent or cure Ebola. Early intensive supportive care, including rehydration and treating symptoms, improves survival. Approved vaccines (such as Ervebo) and antibody treatments exist only for Ebola virus disease. There is no approved vaccine or treatment for Sudan or Bundibugyo virus disease; candidates are being tested. If you have symptoms after a possible exposure, the most important step is to see a clinician quickly and tell them where you have been.
The World Health Organization’s protective steps for this disease:
- Avoid close contact with sick people and with their blood and body fluids.
- Choose a safe and dignified burial; do not touch the body of someone who died of Ebola.
- Avoid contact with wild animals found sick or dead, such as fruit bats and monkeys.
What a whole-body approach can do is keep your baseline strong, so your body is better able to respond when it meets any infection. The basics have the best evidence behind them: steady sleep, a diet rich in vegetables, fruit, beans and whole grains, enough water, regular movement, and keeping routine vaccinations current.
The healers of Kemet left one of the oldest medical texts in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, written around 1550 BCE. Its lesson still holds: watch the body closely, and act early.
What Breitbart News Reports
The government of Switzerland confirmed on Friday that a woman identified as the first patient in Nigeria diagnosed with Ebola Bundibugyo in the context of an ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is a Ugandan-born Swiss national who had not recently visited the DRC. The news follows the Nigerian government’s confirmation on Tuesday that it had diagnosed a case of the rare strain of Ebola in a traveler who arrived in Abuja, the national capital, in early October.[4]
