  • Trump scrapped a planned “biggest attack since World War II” on Iran after Gulf pressure (The Washington Post, 2026).
  • Israel says the US canceled a strike for the 2nd time in a week, leaving it “in the fog” (AOL, 2026).
  • Iran’s defense minister: Tehran is “neither surprised nor passive” (AOL, 2026).
  • Iran says it’s close to an Oman deal on a new Hormuz shipping route (RFI, 2026, authors’ translation).
  • AP: Trump keeps announcing halts, but the strikes keep happening (Associated Press, 2026).
  • Chinese state media call it an “extreme reversal”; English coverage centers Israeli anger (新蓝网, 2026, authors’ translation; AOL, 2026).

1. Last-Minute Reversal: The ‘Biggest Attack Since World War II’ That Wasn’t

President Donald Trump said Sunday he decided to hold off on new strikes against Iran at the urging of Gulf allies Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (The Washington Post, 2026).

A plan was in place for “the biggest attack since World War II,” Trump said, before he scrapped it to give diplomacy more time (The Washington Post, 2026).

Input from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman weighed heavily, and unnamed Iranian officials also requested the move (The Washington Post, 2026).

On Saturday evening, Trump said the emerging deal would include “the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat” (AOL, 2026).

He claimed Mideast allies have reached the parameters of a deal to end the five-month-old war (AOL, 2026).

MSN’s live coverage frames the day as peace-deal progress with Saudi intervention, and quotes Iran’s military accusing the US of “moving down the path of escalating tensions” (MSN, 2026).

2. Israel: ‘Left in the Fog’ — Second Time in a Week

Israeli officials are publicly slamming Trump for “flip flopping” on Iran war strikes (AOL, 2026).

“For the second time in a week, the United States has informed [Israel] of a planned attack that could shake the Middle East — but it was canceled at the last minute without explanation,” a security source told Kan News (AOL, 2026).

The source said Trump’s behavior is damaging and eroding operational capability, and that thousands of IDF officials had prepared for a regional escalation over the weekend (AOL, 2026).

Kemetic Minds Analysis

AP’s own reporting supplies the key to today’s story: Trump has announced halts before, and strikes followed anyway. That track record — not the “peace deal” framing — is why Israeli officials, informed and then countermanded twice in one week, describe themselves as “in the fog” rather than reassured.

Iran is sending two signals at once, not one. Its defense minister is projecting defiance (“neither surprised nor passive”), while its foreign ministry is simultaneously negotiating a concrete Hormuz shipping-lane arrangement with Oman — military posturing and a practical economic exit ramp, in parallel.

The Chinese and English coverage aren’t contradicting each other so much as describing the same concession from opposite ends: Beijing-aligned outlets read Trump’s pause as an “extreme reversal,” while U.S. and Israeli coverage reads it as Gulf leaders successfully overriding him. Both are true of the same event.

The real test is the next 24–48 hours: whether the claimed Hormuz-opening/nuclear parameters produce a signed text, or whether — per AP’s own pattern — this “breakthrough” is simply the pause before strike number three.
