The denial running in MandarinA Jin10 Data headline the same day said Trump described talks as underway and suggested Hormuz might reopen as soon as tomorrow — followed by Iran’s flat rejection that any negotiation was taking place (Jin10 Data, 2026, authors’ translation).
Both cannot be true, and neither side has produced a document showing a live channel.
What does exist is a paper trail of failure. The war began Feb. 28 with US and Israeli strikes on Iran, and a memorandum of understanding signed in Switzerland on June 17 did not stop the fighting (Times of India, 2026).
That Islamabad understanding set a 60-day negotiation window. It expired Aug. 17, fighting resumed, and Washington restarted military attacks the same month (Times of India, 2026; Anadolu Ajansı, 2026).

By Monday’s later reporting, prices had risen about 3 percent to more than $108, after the new Houthi strikes on Saudi Arabia and continued Iranian attacks (MSN, 2026b).

The measures were first introduced in March during the US-Iran war and included halving fuel allowances (Times of India, 2026).
If Gulf money stays home and fuel allowances get halved, this war’s cost is being paid thousands of miles from the battlefield.
4. Houthi Strikes Hit Saudi Arabia as the Yemen Front Reopens
