Group Of NJ Residents Age 85-97 Protested ICE Detention Center Last Week
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — They remember nearly a century of history, and their beliefs inspired them to protest an immigration detention center in North Jersey last week.
A group of residents of a senior housing development in Teaneck — ranging in age from 85 to 97 — boarded a minivan on Saturday along with former State Sen. Loretta Weinberg. They headed to Delaney Hall Detention Camp in Newark, a controversial facility that has come under fire for its living conditions and the fact that the majority of detainees — including children — have no criminal record, reports say. Democratic lawmakers demand ICE data on detainee miscarriages
US lawmakers are urgently demanding that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) disclose how many pregnant immigrants have experienced miscarriages, stillbirths and pregnancy-related hospitalizations while in the its custody, after the agency admitted it lost count last year.
US representatives sent the request following a recent Guardian investigation revealing that the Trump administration is detaining a record number of pregnant women and teens, and at the same has lost track of how many suffered miscarriages. In a letter sent this month to ICE’s acting director, David Venturella, Democratic representatives Brittany Pettersen, Joyce Beatty and Robin Kelly also asked the immigration enforcement agency to explain what – if any – steps have been taken to recover any missing data about these cases. Government documents obtained by the Guardian found that ICE had placed more pregnant immigrants in detention last fall and winter than at any time over the previous year.[2]

Wisconsin ICE Arrestee’s Case Heads to US Supreme Court
Jaciel Cirrus Rojas of Racine spent nearly 9 months in custody.
Federal immigration authorities asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday to hear the case of a Mexican national whom agents arrested last year in Racine. The petition is the latest escalation in a legal fight over the Trump administration’s mandatory detention policy for immigrants facing deportation. The justices’ decision will determine whether tens of thousands of immigrants currently in federal detention can seek release on bond.[3]
Court revives suit to block ICE from churches
A divided three-judge panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit found that the coalition of Christian and Jewish groups has grounds to sue over the enforcement change.
