Detention & Deaths

GEO Group gets 10-year contract for Tacoma, WA ICE detention center

The company operating Tacoma’s Northwest ICE Processing Center has secured a new 10-year federal contract, even as two Washington congresswomen raise questions about conditions inside the facility and the lack of transparency surrounding the deal.

The GEO Group announced Thursday that its new contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is expected to generate approximately $140 million in annual revenue. The agreement runs through Oct. 27, 2036, and covers support services at the facility, which has a capacity of 1,635 beds. The announcement came the same day U.S. Reps. Pramila Jayapal and Emily Randall visited the facility, toured its facility and spoke with two people being held there.[1]

Lawsuit claims Indiana's ICE detention facility treats detainees inhumanely

The class action lawsuit called the Miami Correctional Facility "Indiana's largest and most dangerous high security prison."

The lead plaintiff said the facility provides inadequate health care, uses abusive punishment and provides inhumane conditions. The lawsuit said he facility is dangerously understaffed and delays and denies urgently needed medications and treatments. It said one of the plaintiffs has been treated for epilepsy for years but is being denied proper medication.[2]

Courts & Lawsuits

‘Mountain of evidence’: ICE agents discriminated against Latinos, judge says

Set us as preferred – A federal judge barred ICE agents across Southern California from detaining people solely because they appear Latino or Latino and working class, requiring individualized reasonable suspicion. – The preliminary injunction cites body-camera footage, text messages containing racial slurs and evidence of roving patrols; it is not a final finding that the government maintained an unlawful policy. The order covers Los Angeles and surrounding counties but exempts ports of entry and checkpoints.[3]

‘We’re not criminals’: Chelsea mom sues federal government over violent ICE encounter

A Massachusetts mother is suing the federal government, accusing ICE agents of violently detaining her in front of her two children, including her son who has autism.

The family said the agents ignored repeated attempts to explain their legal status and her son’s disability. Though, ICE said their actions were necessary. Video shows the moments after masked federal immigration agents surround Hilda Ramirez Sanan’s car, shattering the windows, pulling her out and forcing her to the ground, at one point losing consciousness, she says.[4]

Raids & Arrests

ICE agent appears to shove woman filming Morristown raid as local police look on

A Morristown sidewalk was the scene of a heated confrontation Thursday morning when a federal immigration officer appeared to shove a woman who was shooting video of an enforcement action while a Morristown police officer stood watching.

The video, posted on social media, shows an unmasked immigration officer wearing a helmet and military-style uniform marked “POLICE ICE” but no badge, noticing the woman coming closer. He approaches her swiftly, and then the camera is jostled.[5]

“You’re in the crime scene…get out!”

Councilmember Accuses Cops of Failing to Notify When They Are Present at ICE Raids

In a social media post, San Diego Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera accused the police department’s leadership of flouting a city law meant to inform the public about instances in which officers responded to the scene of Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests.

The law in question is the city’s Due Process and Safety Ordinance, which went into effect in May. It was inspired in part by chaotic scenes throughout 2025 during which ICE agents arrested residents accused of being undocumented. Officers with the San Diego Police Department were a familiar presence at ICE raids across the city.[6]

Oversight & Policy

Chicago Catholics suing Trump administration bring migrant detainees’ stories to Pope Leo

Vatican City RNS A delegation of Chicago-area Catholics who are suing the Trump administration for the right to minister to detained migrants met with Pope Leo XIV and Vatican officials this week, armed with stories from inside the Broadview ICE facility.

Group members belong to the Coalition for Spiritual & Public Leadership, a Catholic and Christian-rooted organisation addressing racial, social and environmental issues across more than 65 parishes, universities and organisations. Delegates with the Coalition for Spiritual & Public Leadership meet Pope Leo XIV, on Wednesday, 28th October, 2026, at the Vatican. They greeted the Chicago-born Pope during general audience on Wednesday, gifting him a handmade book relating stories collected from detained immigrants.[7]

Proposed Surprise ICE facility remains on hold as federal environmental review moves forward

SURPRISE, AZ — Months after Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes filed a lawsuit challenging a proposed immigration detention facility in Surprise, federal officials say a contractor has now been brought in to assist with an environmental review of the project.

The proposed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility remains guarded but has not opened for its intended detention operations as the legal and environmental review process continues. Mayes filed the lawsuit in April, alleging the Department of Homeland Security and ICE failed to conduct or make public required environmental reviews before moving ahead with the facility.[8]

“I don’t think we should have it here because I don’t think it’s a good thing,” said Sun City resident Christina Ramirez.
