Is ICE buying Tacoma detention center? WA Congress members want to know
In a Tuesday letter, Seattle Rep. Pramila Jayapal, Bremerton Rep. Emily Randall and 11 other congressional Democrats pressed top immigration officials on their plans for the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma and other detention centers currently run by GEO and CoreCivic, another highly profitable company with multiple ICE contracts.
ICE’s purchase of detention centers would likely make it easier for the federal agency to argue local laws and regulations don’t apply to the jail-like facilities. The agency in August published a request for proposals to run “turnkey” detention centers near Seattle, Denver, Miami and Philadelphia over the next 10 years.[1]
“We are deeply concerned about the potential purchase of these facilities, as it appears to be an attempt to circumvent oversight and accountability at detention facilities,” the Congress members wrote to U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and ICE acting Director David Venturella.

Courts & Lawsuits
Supreme Court denies appeal from Minnesota anti-ICE, Antifa agitator to be released pending trial
"The application for stay presented to Justice Kavanaugh and by him referred to the Court is denied."
Wagner appealed to the Supreme Court with an emergency application, asking that he be released and that being imprisoned caused him harm. Notably, there were no dissents to that ruling.[3]
The Supreme Court denied that emergency application, saying simply in an unsigned order, "The application for stay presented to Justice Kavanaugh and by him referred to the Court is denied."

KSAT Q&A: Mayor Jones discusses why city filed federal lawsuit against DHS, ICE
SAN ANTONIO – The City of San Antonio filed a lawsuit on Tuesday over a proposed immigration facility on the East Side, and Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones discussed the filing during this week’s KSAT Q&A.
The proposed warehouse is projected to hold roughly 1,500 people. Jones said she sent at least four letters opposing the facility and requesting information to the federal government.[4]
The mayor said the city sued because the federal government has not completed a National Environmental Policy Act review of the site and “failed to uphold their obligations to the people of San Antonio.”

ICE agents allegedly detain one man in Merced on Sunday after a week of arrests in the Valley
A surge in immigration enforcement across the San Joaquin Valley this past week has left residents concerned, with reports of arrests in Fresno, Madera and Chowchilla.
Agents appeared to travel north as the week went on, with Faith in the Valley’s Watch Network confirming the detainment in Merced on Sunday and warnings of potential ICE activity in Dos Palos. According to the organization, agents detained the man in Merced between 11 a.m. and noon. Faith in the Valley is still working to determine whether the man was leaving a nearby church or was simply in the area when he was reportedly detained.[6]

Immigrants Sue Trump Administration Claiming ICE Runs a 'Cruel Catch-22' With Seized Property
Seven plaintiffs allege ICE retained key documents and belongings for months after release, costing some their jobs Immigrants are suing the Trump administration in US federal court, alleging that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has, since January 2025, routinely kept seized belongings for months after people were released from civil immigration detention.
The seven named plaintiffs say they walked out of detention without vital possessions such as identity papers, work permits and money. Attorney Norm Eisen called the alleged practice 'a cruel catch-22' in an X post announcing the litigation.
