ICE agent Christian Castro was arrested in Texas on Sept. 3 and charged with six counts of making false statements to investigators after he shot Minnesota man Julio Sosa-Celis through the door of his home in January.^[3]

The federal charges mark the first for an immigration officer by President Donald Trump’s administration related to Operation Metro Surge in the Twin Cities.
Castro claimed Sosa-Celis assaulted him with a broomstick and shovel, but video evidence from near the scene disproved all of his claims.
The unsealed federal indictment showed Castro exaggerated an 11-second incident into a three-minute struggle.
Castro has been suspended without pay by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“Mr. Sosa Celis wants Mr. Castro to be held fully accountable for his crimes,” said Robin Wolpert, attorney for Sosa-Celis.

Earlier this year, Krishnamoorthi reintroduced the Hate Crimes Commission Act with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Representatives Grace Meng and Nydia Velázquez to establish a bipartisan commission examining hate-crime drivers and propose a Government Accountability Office audit of federal hate-crime data.
