Metro Nashville police fatally shot Jason William Sexton, 54, on Aug. 29 while he held a sword outside his Hyundai on Cheshire Drive, before a mental health negotiation team could arrive.^[2]

SWAT officer Joshua Baney fired the fatal shot and was ‘decommissioned’ in the hours after the shooting, meaning he lost all police authority.
Police spokesman Don Aaron said, ‘The negotiator team was in the process of arriving when the shooting occurred.’
Sexton was shot after he threatened a store clerk who had confronted him about paying for a cup of coffee.
Aaron said more than 700 MNPD officers, including SWAT, have received Crisis Intervention Training.
Davidson County Court records show Sexton was charged with assault on July 22, 2026, and released on a $2,000 bond.

3. ICE: ‘A Week of Terror’: ICE Detains Dozens Across Connecticut Cities

ICE agents patrolled Danbury streets every day this week, taking away dozens of people in what an advocacy group called ‘a week of terror in the Hat City.’^[3]

Greater Danbury Unites for Immigrants tallied at least 62 people taken into ICE custody through direct observation and videos, a number that could not be confirmed.
State Rep. Farley Santos said nearly 50 community members were taken in the last three days, including a man battling brain cancer detained at Home Depot and a mother dragged from a grocery store parking lot.
The school district altered its dropoff process in some cases after reports of parents detained by ICE after putting children on a school bus, and some parents are keeping kids home.
Day laborers who usually wait by Kenney Park for work have been absent after several were detained there, and a local soccer club canceled practice and weekend games.
