Getty Images – Reuters Latest A high-speed passenger train rear-ended another on Wednesday morning near Toledo, Spain, derailing parts of both and killing at least 64 people, according to local emergency officials.

The death toll from the accident, which sent multiple carriages down an embankment, makes it one of the most lethal in the country’s history.

The crash also comes after a deadly collision involving the same carriers on a southern line in January, which killed 46 people, stunned Spain and created deep doubts about the security of its once-vaunted rail system.

At least 58 people were injured in the crash on Wednesday, officials from the Castilla-La Mancha region said.[1]
