As reported by BBC:
Ukraine now has a "stable connection" to Starlink, its defence minister has said, after its military suffered days of restricted connectivity on the satellite internet network.
Kyiv relies on the Starlink and its military-grade counterpart Starshield for piloting drones and operations within Ukraine, but last week accused US President Donald Trump of telling owner Elon Musk to place limits on it.
This meant drones would lose connection when travelling at 161km/h (100mph) or more, it said. Trump denied doing so before saying Musk had "put it back".
Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara said that speeds of more than 400km/h were now possible on the network, indicating that full capability had been restored.
"This result is above all important for our front, for our soldiers, for the operation of drones, for logistics and for communications," he said in a statement on Saturday.[1]
Primary-source video: Office of Ukraine's President (official Telegram), October 24, 2026 — “The most important thing today is that Starlink and Starshield operations have been restored to the speeds we had before all the restrictions. The speeds are no”. Matched to this story by shared names and terms in its title; watch the original for full context.
On the record
"This result is above all important for our front, for our soldiers, for the operation of drones, for logistics and for communications," he said in a statement on Saturday.[1]
“I don’t know if it was anybody, but it wasn’t me, and I don’t think it was Elon,” Trump said, referring to Musk, SpaceX’s chief executive.[2]

What The Guardian reports
Ukraine’s military has a “stable connection to Starlink”, the Ukrainian government has said, 10 days after its ability to use the satellite communications system was suddenly restricted.
The Starlink satellite terminals, which are produced by Elon Musk’s SpaceX but managed by the US government, are a key component of Ukraine’s military operations.
Sudden speed restrictions on the terminals, which capped operations at speeds of 160km/h (99mph), led to the failure of several Ukrainian combat missions earlier this month.[2]
What is not yet confirmed
- Russia is not authorised to use Starlink, so when Ukraine sends long-range missiles or drones deep into Russia to hit oil refineries, the network does not work.[1]
- The speed restrictions coincided with the announcement by Donald Trump of a US deal to buy Russian diesel, although the US president initially denied that his administration was behind the decision to cut intelligence sharing with Ukraine.[2]

In a letter sent to SpaceX Vice President of Legal Christopher Cardaci, the Senators sought answers about any involvement SpaceX may have had in Ukraine’s restricted access to Starshield as well as the role SpaceX plays in Ukraine’s ongoing access to Starlink technology.[5]
