As reported by NBC News:

Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home in Washington, D.C., on Monday morning, according to two people familiar with the investigation.

One of the people familiar with the investigation said the search is part of a yearslong criminal investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. attorney in Minneapolis and the Department of Justice.

The probe, which involves whistleblowers, documents and witness testimony, deals partly with immigration and fraud, but goes beyond those things, the source said.

A Justice Department spokesperson said in a statement that Homeland Security Investigations, part of the Department of Homeland Security that conducts criminal probes, “executed a judicially authorized search warrant as “part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.”

The statement did not specify that the warrant was related to Omar, D-Minn., and did not provide further information about the nature of the investigation.

In a post on X, Omar called the search “an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” adding that over the last decade, President Donald Trump “has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns.[1]

The Department of Justice said in a statement Monday that investigators from Homeland Security Investigations, a branch of the Department of Homeland Security that handles criminal investigations, “executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice.” “This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation,” a DOJ spokesperson said.[2]

What CNN reports

Federal officers executed a search warrant early Monday at the Washington, DC-area home of Rep. Ilhan Omar, the Minnesota Democrat who has been the persistent target of ire from President Donald Trump’s administration, according to a Justice Department spokesperson and a source familiar with the matter.

The congresswoman is running for reelection, and the search warrant was executed only weeks before the midterms. It is unusual for the Justice Department to take such an aggressive investigative step toward a candidate so close to an election.[2]

What is not yet confirmed

  • He claimed in a Truth Social post that the state “is being taken over by Somali Immigrants.” One of the most high-profile fraud cases was a $250 million case where perpetrators allegedly stole money from a Covid-related program that provided food for children.[1]
