As early voting begins, ACLU of South Dakota hosts voting rights education event. SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – As the general election draws near, organizations like the ACLU of South Dakota are letting people know what their rights and responsibilities are when it comes to voting. The organization hosted what it calls a “Know Your Voting Rights Training” on Saturday in Sioux Falls, encouraging people to get out and vote and discussing the processes behind an election like this one. The organization said it’s focused on ensuring every eligible voter can vote. “We’re hearing a lot of confusion about recent laws that have been passed in South Dakota pertaining to voter registration. Most specifically, the new South Dakota Save Act, SB175, the documentary proof of citizenship requirement. We don’t want voters to have the wrong idea about the ID that they need when they actually go to vote,” said advocacy manager Samantha Chapman. This year’s general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and absentee voting is now open in South Dakota.[1]
