Signs in the Heavens — Weekly UFO/UAP Sighting Report — August 26, 2026
This week’s roundup leads with a Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, couple whose daylight cellphone video of a massive, rectangular object hovering over the tree line is now the subject of a NUFORC investigation. Also in the files: new scientific scrutiny of the Pentagon’s PURSUE video releases, fresh declassifications, and the psychological weight of prolonged uncertainty.
- Idaho daylight sighting: NUFORC incident report #200185 describes a “very large,” rectangular object emitting multiple colors of light while hovering over a tree line at about 2 P.M., with an estimated size of 300–400 feet (KEZJ, 2026).
- Scientists study 112 PURSUE videos: A preprint by Jacob Haqq-Misra and Ravi Kopparapu finds missing or redacted sensor data prevents civilian researchers from confirming anomalous velocities (The Debrief, 2026).
- 2 billion views, few answers: The PURSUE files have drawn almost 2 billion views but are being released without context or explanation (Psychology Today, 2026).
- Fresh Pentagon releases: The Pentagon declassified 50 UFO encounters (Mshale, 2026) and released new files with “red plasma spheres” reports (Tovima, 2026).
- Uncertainty’s psychological cost: Prolonged UAP uncertainty can turn curiosity into powerlessness, anger, and mistrust, making false narratives more appealing (Psychology Today, 2026).

1. Idaho: Coeur d’Alene Couple Reports 300–400-Foot Object
A married couple in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, reported a daylight UAP sighting to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) on August 14, 2026, according to KEZJ (2026).
The incident report, identified as #200185, includes cellphone footage of a “very large” object hovering over a tree line in daylight (KEZJ, 2026).
The witnesses described the object as rectangular in shape and emitting multiple colors of light, with blinking lights visible from two different sides of the craft (KEZJ, 2026).
The footage was recorded at approximately 2 P.M., and the couple estimated the object’s size at between 300 and 400 feet — the detail that “jumps off the page” in the report, according to KEZJ (2026).
The sighting is the 17th Idaho UAP report of 2026 investigated by NUFORC. Another UAP was reported in the Coeur d’Alene area on May 9, 2026 (KEZJ, 2026).

2. Pentagon: Scientists Analyze 112 PURSUE Videos
Since May 8, 2026, the U.S. Department of War has released more than 100 videos reportedly capturing unknown objects in U.S. airspace and near American military operations around the world, according to The Debrief (2026).
Researchers Jacob Haqq-Misra of Blue Marble Space and Ravi Kopparapu of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center examined 112 videos released under the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE) (The Debrief, 2026).
Their preprint — not yet peer-reviewed — found that missing or redacted sensor data prevents civilian researchers from determining whether seemingly fast-moving objects in the videos actually display anomalous velocities (The Debrief, 2026).
The apparent speed of an object suggested by its movement across a camera’s field of view is not necessarily an accurate indication of its real physical velocity, the researchers note (The Debrief, 2026).
Both researchers serve on the UAP Science Advisory Council to the U.S. government (The Debrief, 2026).
“I think our conclusion will come as no surprise to people in the aviation, aerospace, and intelligence communities who have already been closely following UAP disclosure,” Haqq-Misra told The Debrief, adding that the conclusions “may not be fully appreciated in the broader public discussion” (The Debrief, 2026).

3. Public Response: The Toll of Prolonged Uncertainty
The PURSUE files, which Donald Trump stated on his Truth Social account he was releasing so “the people can decide for themselves ‘WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON,'” have received almost 2 billion views, according to Psychology Today (2026).
Yet the information is being released without context or explanation and has, thus far, left more questions than answers (Psychology Today, 2026).
Prolonged UAP uncertainty can turn curiosity into powerlessness, anger, and mistrust, and information gaps make false narratives and confident claims more appealing (Psychology Today, 2026).
Honest communication about what is known and unknown can make uncertainty easier to tolerate, the report adds (Psychology Today, 2026).

What Officials Are Saying
The Pentagon declassified 50 UFO encounters this week, according to Mshale (2026), and released new UFO files with “red plasma spheres” reports, according to Tovima (2026).
Many government and military officials have gone on record stating they have seen classified information that indicates the possibility of non-human spacecraft and biologics, but say they can’t say more (Psychology Today, 2026).
Whistleblowers report they cannot give specifics because of NDAs or fear of retaliation (Psychology Today, 2026).

How To Report a Sighting
Both NUFORC and MUFON accept public sighting reports online. NUFORC investigates each report — including one-on-one phone interviews with witnesses — and publishes its findings on the agency’s official website for public viewing (KEZJ, 2026).

“Signs in the Heavens” exists to separate signal from noise: every sighting in this series is tied to a named source — an official government report, a recognized sighting-report database, or mainstream news coverage — rather than an anonymous forum post. That does not mean any sighting here is confirmed as extraterrestrial in origin; it means the report itself is real and checkable, which is the bar this series holds to every week.

Investigative Methodology: This roundup is generated on a fixed weekly schedule (Wednesday morning, America/Chicago) from live wire sources. Every claim is grounded in fetched source text with an APA7 in-text citation, and this series only reports sightings backed by an official report, a named investigative database (NUFORC, MUFON), military/pilot witnesses, or mainstream news coverage — never anonymous social-media claims alone. No sighting is asserted to be confirmed extraterrestrial activity. Every video embed is verified to be a real, existing video via YouTube’s oEmbed endpoint before publication — none are written by the drafting model. No Wikipedia sources are used.
