The Threat
Proving this all wasn’t just a fluke, in the fall of 2025we saw at least 3 more detections.[1]
While concerning, none of these outbreaks involved theB3.13`bovine’ orD1.1poultry/wild bird strains, which together had caused scores of human infections in the United Stats. This was an environmental sample from an unknown source, and does not establish an infectious virus, a human case, or community transmission.[1]
The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health (DOH) is reporting that a wastewater sample from Kauaʻi County tested positive for H5N1 avian influenza.[1]
Office of the Governor Josh Green (.gov) says: News Release – DOH Reports H5N1 Avian Flu Detected in Kauaʻi County Wastewater Sample Posted on Oct 29, 2026 in Latest Department News, NewsroomSTATE OF HAWAIʻI KA MOKU ʻĀINA O HAWAIʻI JOSH GREEN, M.D. A small number of human cases of genotype D1.1 have been reported nationally.[2]
Transmission Method
What the reports say about exposure and spread: This is the first detection of the H5N1 virus associated with this year’s seasonal bird migration and thefirst detection of genotype D1.1 in Hawaiʻi. In the United States, genotype D1.1 has become the predominant genotype in infected wildlife and domestic poultry and there have also been isolated events of D1.1 infecting dairy cattle.[1]
How H5N1 bird flu spreads, according to the World Health Organization: People catch bird flu through direct or indirect contact with infected animals: handling, slaughtering or preparing infected poultry, live bird markets, and contaminated surroundings. In 2024 H5N1 reached dairy cattle in the United States and infected some farm workers. The bird flu viruses circulating now have not shown sustained spread from person to person.[3]
Affected Regions
Places named in the reports: United States, Missouri, Hawaii, Utah.
What Is Not Confirmed
- Residents who believe they may have been exposed to sick birds or other wildlife should contact the DOH Disease Outbreak Control Division’s Disease Reporting Line at 808-586-4586 for additional guidance.[2]
Holistic & Immune Defense Outlook
There is no herb, supplement or diet that has been shown to prevent or cure H5N1 bird flu. Health authorities should be told about anyone suspected of having bird flu. Patients are tested, isolated and treated, for example with antivirals and supportive care. If you have symptoms after a possible exposure, the most important step is to see a clinician quickly and tell them where you have been.
The World Health Organization’s protective steps for this disease:
- Avoid contact with sick or dead animals, including wild birds, and report them to local wildlife or veterinary authorities.
- Wash your hands with soap and running water before and after contact with animals.
- Handle, store and cook eggs, meat and other animal products properly.
What a whole-body approach can do is keep your baseline strong, so your body is better able to respond when it meets any infection. The basics have the best evidence behind them: steady sleep, a diet rich in vegetables, fruit, beans and whole grains, enough water, regular movement, and keeping routine vaccinations current.
The healers of Kemet left one of the oldest medical texts in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, written around 1550 BCE. Its lesson still holds: watch the body closely, and act early.
What Blavity News Reports
A two-month uncontrolled outbreak of H5N1 bird flu at C&T Fenn Farms in Utah has renewed urgent alarms over mammalian transmission – and exposed glaring failures in agricultural worker safety. According to an October 2026 investigation by ProPublica, state and federal regulators declined to cull the infected herd or mandate active health surveillance for the farm’s workforce, despite high animal mortality and known risks of viral spillover.[4]
