A missing person from Norfolk, Virginia, was found dead at the base of Falling Water Falls on Signal Mountain, Tennessee, after reports of a suspicious vehicle in the 900 block of Falling Water Trail led deputies to the discovery.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office says the body was located on October 8 at Falling Water Falls. The search began after deputies received reports of a suspicious vehicle in the 900 block of Falling Water Trail on Signal Mountain, according to WAVY.com.
Deputies determined the vehicle belonged to a missing person from Norfolk, and launched a search that same day. Deputies suspended the search that evening because of safety concerns and darkness, the station’s report notes, before resuming the next morning. .
When searchers returned at daylight on October 8, they found the vehicle owner’s body at the bottom of the waterfall. A Multi-Agency Recovery in Rugged Terrain Pulling a body from the base of a 110-foot sandstone gorge is not a one-crew job.
The sheriff’s office confirmed that six specialized response entities coordinated the recovery: Hamilton County STARS, the Hamilton County Cliff and Cave Rescue Team, Hamilton County EMS, the Hamilton County Medical Examiner Office, Tennessee State Park Rangers, and Walden’s Ridge Fire Rescue.[1]

About the Strange Fruit Series
“Strange Fruit” originates from a 1937 poem by Abel Meeropol, recorded in 1939 by Billie Holiday, documenting lynchings in the American South. This investigative series tracks strange American hangings, individuals discovered under unexplained or suspicious circumstances, missing persons cases, and under-reported deaths across the United States that receive little to no national media attention. Each dispatch features an automated Media Breadth Audit measuring newsroom coverage at publication. Stories reflect public law enforcement records and verified local reporting; unless official autopsy findings are released, causes and manners of death remain undetermined.
For immediate confidential support during any crisis or emotional distress, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available nationwide by calling or texting 988.
