Stunning Earthquake Data From The USGS

The first bit of information we are going to cover is earthquake data.1

Summary Of The Data Sets

This file contains data on significant earthquakes that occurred between 1995 and 2023. Here’s a summary of the key points:
1. Data Format: The file includes the magnitude, date, time, location, depth, and geographical coordinates for each earthquake.
2. Time Range: The earthquakes listed span from 2023 to 1995, covering nearly three decades of seismic activity.
3. Magnitude Range: The earthquakes range from 6.5 to 9.1 on the moment magnitude scale (Mw).
4. Geographical Distribution: The earthquakes occurred in various regions worldwide, including the Pacific Ring of Fire, Asia, South America, and other seismically active areas.
5. Notable Events: Some significant earthquakes mentioned include:
• The 2011 Great Tohoku Earthquake in Japan (M 9.1)
• The 2004 Sumatra-Andaman Earthquake (M 9.1, inferred from context)
• The 2010 Chile Earthquake (M 8.8)
• The 2008 Sichuan Earthquake in China (M 7.9)
6. Frequency: The list includes numerous high-magnitude earthquakes (M 7.0+) occurring almost yearly, highlighting the regular occurrence of major seismic events globally.
7. Impact: While not explicitly stated for most events, the magnitudes suggest that many of these earthquakes had significant impacts on their regions, potentially causing damage and triggering tsunamis in some cases.
8. Data Sources: The information comes from various seismological agencies and monitoring networks, with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) being a primary source.
This dataset provides a comprehensive overview of significant global seismic activity over the past few decades, which helps study patterns in earthquake occurrence and distribution.

For the past 30 days, we have witnessed over 100 4.0 or greater earthquakes, according to the USGS data. I attempted to extract more data today and had a world of trouble. I was up late attempting to try it again but had to work with the previous data set I downloaded.

Here is a mountain graph of the last 30 days, which is mind-blowing.

1995 – 2023 data set from Kaggle ( the data set is from the USGS )revealed significant earthquakes have increased in frequency and strength.2

Notice that the number of earthquakes only reached 53 (twice) for the entire year. Remember, in the last 30 days, we have witnessed over 250 earthquakes measuring 4.5 or greater.

Depth and magnitude have also increased over time:

I’ll close with the latest headlines that have come out recently. Prepare the best you can. This is your warning. I believe they are distracting us all:
