Detention & Deaths
Padilla, Costa Denied Entry to Golden State Annex Facility in Central Valley as Death Toll in ICE Custody Reaches More Than 60 Under Trump – Van Nuys News Press
Padilla and Costa attempted to exercise their congressional oversight role as the Trump Administration escalates immigration enforcement operations across the Central Valley and throughout California.
Golden State Annex is operated by the GEO Group, a for-profit private prison company. The lawmakers were turned away as Golden Annex officials claimed that ICE agents were not present on site to allow them into the facility.[1]
South Florida immigrant advocates hold 'Day of the Dead' vigil to honor lives lost in ICE custody
Immigrant rights advocates and community organizations on Monday remembered and honored those who have died in custody of federal immigration authorities during a Day of the Dead vigil in Miramar.
The advocates reported that at least 56 people have died in ICE custody since President Donald Trump took office in January 2025 and launched his aggressive immigrant deportation plan. They said agents with ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection have killed 11 people in shootings.[2]
"Our traditions teach us that remembrance is an act of love, and that every person deserves dignity, care, and the chance to live freely with their family and community."

Courts & Lawsuits
Federal Court in New Mexico Blocks ICE from Deporting Afghan National to Pakistan Without Adequate Safeguards
Today, a federal judge in the District of New Mexico blocked ICE from putting Sardar Akbari, an Afghan national, on an ICE charter flight headed to Pakistan on November 3 without any notice or opportunity to present a claim of fear of persecution or torture in Pakistan.
The ruling was based on the acute mental health crisis that Akbari suffered when he learned of the government’s intention to deport him to Pakistan. “If ICE is able to deport vulnerable immigrants like Mr. Akbari to a country other than his own without any notice or opportunity to claim fear, the fundamental due process safeguards to which we are all entitled are rendered virtually meaningless.”[3]
“Mr. Akbari’s case is a window into the abject horrors of our immigration system, and the government’s ‘third country removals’ in particular,” said Shaw Drake, Assistant Professor of Law at the University of New Mexico School of Law, co-counsel for Akbari.

Federal Judge Prohibits ICE from Detaining People Based on Latino Appearance in California
Posted on 11/02/26 at 18:25 A new court order limits immigration operations in seven Southern California counties, following the revelation of messages and recordings from federal agents.
A federal judge ordered U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to stop detaining people based solely on their Latino appearance and other general factors in California. According to the Los Angeles Times, the magistrate reviewed body camera footage and messages exchanged between federal agents during their operations. The judge also questioned the federal government's training in light of the documented behaviors during the litigation.[4]
Raids & Arrests
TV host Inés Gómez Mont detained in Miami over visa violation — Mexico News Daily
Former Mexican television host Inés Gómez Mont was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Miami, Florida.
According to media reports, the reason was that she had exceeded the permitted period of stay in the United States under her U.S. visa. Gómez Mont is currently being held at the Broward Transitional Center immigration facility in Pompano Beach. As Mexico News Daily reports, Mexico's Federal Prosecutor's Office confirmed the detention on October 30.[5]
Christian blogger Samuel Sey, arrested by ICE, has been removed to Canada, family says
A conservative Christian blogger and podcaster who once wrote, “If you love America, you should support ICE,” has been removed from the U.S. and is now in Canada, his family said Friday (Oct. 30), nine days after immigration agents arrested him at an Ohio airport.
Samuel Sey, whose “Slow to Write” blog is popular with Reformed evangelical Christians, was arrested by ICE at the Columbus International Airport. Supporters and his family initially believed a clerical error had led to his detention.[6]
“We sincerely believed we were following the legal process, which we continue to respect,” Sey’s wife, Annie, posted on X. “Sadly, Samuel was removed from the U.S. and is in Canada as of today,” October 30.

Oversight & Policy
DHS responds after viral video appears to show ICE agent point gun at bystander in North Hollywood
The Department of Homeland Security is responding to a chaotic ICE arrest in North Hollywood that has drawn condemnation from city and state leaders.
It happened outside the Ivy at NOHO apartments on Otsego Street. Video from the incident appears to show a masked federal agent pointing a firearm at a bystander. According to DHS, the incident occurred as agents moved in to arrest Angel Luis Gonzalez Lobo, whom the agency says is an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela with a final order of removal.[7]
San Antonio Socialists Stage Dia de Los Muertos Vigil Against ICE
The protest took place at the site of a future U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center on the city’s East Side.
Around two dozen people attended the vigil and listened as DSA speakers described the impact of ICE enforcement operations in the city. DSA members and attendees arrived at the site of the proposed detention facility and unfurled a large banner that read, “ABOLISH ICE STOP ALAMO ALCATRAZ.”[8]
The chapter’s flyer announcing the vigil invited the public “to grieve, reflect, and be in community as we honor individuals murdered by immigration police this year.”
