Egypt’s fruit and vegetable exports to Africa reach US$491.4 million in 2025.
Egypt is seeking to expand its fruit and vegetable exports to African markets by diversifying destinations, improving market access, and strengthening trade partnerships, according to Industry Minister Khaled Hashem.
Egyptian exports of fresh vegetables and fruit to African markets reached US$491.4 million in 2025, making horticultural products one of the country’s agricultural export categories.
Speaking at a forum organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt and the African Export-Import Bank, Hashem outlined plans to expand Egyptian exports beyond North Africa into East, West, and Central African markets.
Egypt’s overall exports to African Union countries reached US$7.6 billion in 2025, compared with US$7.8 billion in 2024. Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, and Tunisia remained the main destinations for Egyptian goods.
Mohamed Kassem, chairman of the Egyptian Exporters Association, identified agricultural products among the categories with opportunities for further export growth. He called for improved shipping and logistics networks, trade facilitation, market intelligence, and export financing to support exporters entering additional African markets.
Discussions also addressed the African Continental Free Trade Area and its potential role in improving cross-border trade and market access for Egyptian exporters.[1]
