Newsom Makes California First State To Require Corporations To Disclose Slavery Ties & Profits Under Oath As Part Of New Reparations Law California is putting corporate history under a microscope with a first-in-the-nation law requiring some major companies to disclose whether they or their predecessors profited from chattel slavery.
According to LAist, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the Truth in Disclosure Act, a measure requiring qualifying companies operating in California to reveal historical and financial connections to transactions involving enslaved people. The Laist explains that Assembly Bill 2599, authored by Democratic Assemblymember Isaac Bryan of Culver City, applies to companies with more than $100 million in annual worldwide gross receipts.[2]

CHILLIWACK – Chilliwack City Council is set to consider a funding request at its meeting today that would seek to re-establish and operate a restorative justice program in Chilliwack.
According to item 7.4 on today’s council agenda, the Abbotsford Restorative Justice and Advocacy Association is seeking $86,373 in Community Development Initiatives Fund (CDIF) funding from the City of Chilliwack over 15 months, to revive a restorative justice strategy within Chilliwack. A staff report from Karen Stanton, director of public safety and social development for the City of Chilliwack, indicates the Chilliwack Restorative Justice Association was dissolved in fall 2025.[3]
