Craven County sheriff warns of scam calls posing as deputies.
Craven County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an ongoing scam in which callers pose as sheriff’s deputies and use official office phone numbers to appear legitimate.
The callers may claim a person owes money for unpaid fines, missed jury duty, or other fabricated charges, and they may demand immediate payment and threaten arrest or other legal action, according to CCSO.
The sheriff’s office said it will never ask for payment over the phone, and deputies also will not request financial information or demand payment by gift card, wire transfer, or prepaid debit card.[1]
