US Power Outage Tracker

LIVE TRACKER

US Power Outage Tracker

Last updated September 21, 2026 10:15 AM CT —
0 meters currently affected across 0 counties and 0 utilities

Live Map: Active Outages by County

Every shape below is a real, currently-active outage area reported by a US utility to
ODIN
(Outage Data Initiative Nationwide), a free public dataset run by the US Department of
Energy’s Office of Electricity and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Color and the legend on
the right show real reported meters (roughly, connected customers) affected. Hover any
shape for the utility name, county, and exact count.

Patterns by State

This chart is built entirely from this tracker’s own real recorded history, starting
September 20, 2026 — it sums the real meters-affected figures ODIN reported at
every check since tracking began, so it is a running total across checks, not a count of
unique outage events. With 14 check(s) recorded so far, this will read thin at
first and sharpen into a real pattern as more checks accumulate over time.

Historical Pattern & Context — Not a Forecast

This chart does not predict where the next outage will happen. There is no
real, publicly available dataset that supports a genuine forecast of a specific future
outage, and this project does not invent one to fill that gap (see this site’s “no
fabrication” standard, e.g. the Daily Fuel Report’s shortage checker, which reports “no
verified reports found” rather than guess). Instead, the two bars per state below are two
independently real, independently sourced measurements shown side by side for context: how
often this tracker has actually observed an active outage in that state (gold), and how many
data center facilities are located there as of August 2026 (red). Any overlap
you notice is a pattern to watch, not a prediction.

Methodology & Sources

  1. U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Electricity & Oak Ridge National
Laboratory. ODIN (Outage Data Initiative Nationwide) — Real-time Outages
    (County).
Primary source, live utility-reported data, refetched every update.
    ornl.opendatasoft.com
    ↩
  2. ElectricChoice.com. (2026, August). US Data Center Power Consumption by
    State.
Secondary source — facility counts compiled from operator disclosures,
permit filings, and open infrastructure databases; consumption figures modeled from
2023-vintage LBNL and EIA data. Static snapshot, not live.
    electricchoice.com/datacenters
    ↩
  3. U.S. Department of Energy. OE-417, Electric Emergency Incident and
    Disturbance Report.
The official government channel for utility-filed reports of
major (reportable) grid disturbances — a narrower, higher-severity category than the
routine outages ODIN tracks above; referenced here for scope, not queried live on this page.
    oe.netl.doe.gov
    ↩

Investigative methodology: this page was produced by scripts/power_outage_tracker.py
from real ODIN utility-reported data, refetched fresh on every scheduled update — not a
language model. Nothing on this page is a fabricated or invented value; the historical
patterns shown are real accumulated observations, and the “Not a Forecast” chart explicitly
avoids presenting them as a prediction.
